Dr. Karine DeSouza is a board-certified Family Medicine physician committed to delivering inclusive, patient-centered primary care. She completed her medical degree at St. George’s University of London and her Family Medicine residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. During residency, she made history as the first resident invited to join the primary care team at UMMC’s TEAM Clinic—Mississippi’s pioneering LGBTQ+ health program—solidifying her dedication to affirming, community-focused care.
Dr. DeSouza’s passion for medicine is deeply personal. Growing up, she witnessed loved ones struggle to navigate the healthcare system due to language and cultural barriers. These early experiences shaped her mission to become a physician who not only treats, but truly hears and advocates for her patients. She values primary care for its continuity, connection, and the ability to build meaningful, long-term relationships.
Her clinical interests include gender-affirming care, sexual and reproductive health, preventive medicine, and holistic wellness—reflecting her belief that healthcare must be accessible, inclusive, and empowering for every individual.
Originally born in Curitiba, Brazil, and raised in New Port Richey, Florida, Dr. DeSouza brings a multicultural perspective to her work and is fluent in Portuguese. Outside the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her husband and pets, traveling whenever possible, going to the movies, reading, and relaxing with video games.
